Sweet Shop (Mithai) Billing Software Guide

A Mithai Shop Has Its Own Rhythm

A sweet shop can be quiet on a Tuesday afternoon and impossibly crowded the week before Diwali or Raksha Bandhan. Customers buy 250 g of kaju katli, a kilo of mixed sweets, three gift boxes and a packet of namkeen — all in one bill, all in a hurry.

Many sweet shops also run a snack or dine-in section serving chaat, samosas and thalis. The billing system has to handle both the counter and the kitchen.

1. Billing by Weight

Most sweets are sold per kg. The software should let the cashier:

  • •Select the sweet and enter the weight in decimals (0.250, 0.500, 1.250 kg)
  • •Calculate the amount at the per-kg rate automatically
  • •Print the weight, rate and amount clearly on the bill
Read more in our guide to selling by weight with decimal quantity billing.

2. Pieces and Packs

Some items sell by piece (laddoo, samosa) and some by pack (namkeen, rusk). Each item should have its own unit, so the cashier never has to convert in their head.

3. Barcodes for Packed Items

Packed sweets, dry fruit boxes and namkeen packets move faster with barcodes. Scan and bill, with no search and no wrong prices.

4. Gift Boxes and Combos

During festivals, gift boxes are the biggest sellers. Set them up as combos with a fixed price — "Diwali Box 1 kg", "Assorted Dry Fruit Box" — so the cashier bills one item while stock is deducted for each sweet inside. See combo and bundle pricing.

5. Fast Checkout in the Festival Rush

  • •Open extra billing counters on separate devices
  • •Use keyboard shortcuts and favourites for best sellers
  • •Accept UPI with a QR on the bill or customer display
  • •Keep the counter running even if the internet drops
Our guide to multiple billing counters for peak hours covers how to set up extra counters.

6. Stock and Shelf Life

Milk-based sweets have a short shelf life; dry sweets and namkeen last longer. Track production each morning, deduct sales through the day and record what is left. Expiry tracking helps sell older stock first and reduces waste.

7. Raw Material and Production

Khoya, sugar, ghee, besan and dry fruits are expensive. Recording production — 20 kg of barfi made from known quantities of raw materials — shows real cost per kg and catches leakage.

8. The Snack and Dine-In Section

If you serve chaat, thalis or tea, the same system should handle table orders and send KOTs to the kitchen, while the sweets counter continues weight-based billing.

9. Bulk and Corporate Orders

Weddings and corporate Diwali orders are large and often paid in parts. Record the customer, the order and any advance, and keep GST invoices ready for business customers who need them.

Key Takeaways

  • •Sweet shop billing must handle weight, pieces and packs in one bill.
  • •Barcodes and combos speed up packed items and gift boxes.
  • •Extra counters and offline billing keep the festival rush moving.
  • •Track production, stock and expiry to control waste and cost.
  • •One system can run both the sweets counter and a snack or dine-in section.
